My wife and I finished watching the HBO mini series John Adams last night. It was as powerful a drama as I can remember seeing on television in many years. It was based on the 2002 Pulitzer Prize winning biography John Adams, by David McCullough. Paul Giamatti should win an Emmy for his portrayal of Patriot and second President of the U.S. John Adams.
The John Adams quote at the end of the seventh and final episode was quite meaningful to me and one all Americans should know.
"Posterity, you will never know how much it cost the present generation to preserve your freedom. I hope you will make good use of it. If you do not, I shall repent in heaven that ever I took half the pains to preserve it."
